The tech job market has undergone significant shifts in recent years, making it increasingly challenging for junior developers and even experienced engineers to secure roles. With massive layoffs, the rise of AI tools, and an oversaturated pool of candidates, breaking into the field or finding a new position has become tougher than ever. Here, I’ll share insights from my experiences hiring, firing, and collaborating with companies, offering practical advice for navigating this evolving landscape.

Understanding the Current Landscape

To appreciate the difficulties in today’s market, it’s important to know where we’ve been. In the not-too-distant past, tech companies faced a shortage of skilled engineers. This scarcity led to the hiring of junior developers as long-term investments. Companies would take a chance on less experienced candidates, hoping they would grow into key contributors over time.

However, two major factors have disrupted this dynamic:
